Because of a gold-duping glitch, character transfers are erased as soon as they appear on the screen. Amazon gives, and Amazon takes away from its customers. A new glitch that duplicates armor and items on transferred characters prevents Amazon from enabling the long-awaited server transfer feature for New World players until after they have gained access to it.
The exact nature of the glitch is unknown, but Amazon has confirmed that some characters were left in an invalid data state after being transferred between server instances. This prevented the character from properly saving their progress and also allowed them to keep recently traded gold andDiablo 2 resurrected Runewordsin their possession.
Amazon has expressed displeasure with players who have figured out how to take advantage of this gold-duplicating exploit and has promised to take swift action against them. Amazon wrote on the New World forums that all of these transactions have been recorded in their database. We are currently reviewing them, and any players found to be intentionally taking advantage of this condition in order to gain an advantage will be banned for exploiting it. In addition, we will remove anyDiablo 2 Resurrected Items XboXor gold that has been received where appropriate.
Amazon initially believed they had discovered the exploit and had patched it by yesterday afternoon, but it turned out that they hadn't done so after all. As a result, they discontinued all character transfers.
Since the start of character transfers, we've transferred approximately 150K players in total. According to community manager TrevzorFTW, a small number of those have resulted in characters with an invalid data state that must be corrected. We completed this for those who were affected last night, but there are still some new transfers that are being affected that we are aware of. In the meantime, we have halted character transfers and are investigating how we can prevent this problem from recurring in the future. When that issue is resolved, we will re-start the service and make an announcement in advance of doing so.
Players who have joined the New World are once again stranded, which isn't ideal given the rapid deflation issue that has gripped the majority of the game's most popular servers recently. Because more gold is being taken out of the game than is being brought in by gameplay, prices on everything have fallen as players hoard their cash. Contrary to popular belief, duplicating gold might have alleviated the situation to some extent, but then Amazon would simply be trading one problem for another.
